First Choice Health Home : Employee Assistance Program : Screening Tools : Anxiety Awareness Tool
At one time or another we all experience some degree of anxiety. Speaking in public,
being in large crowds, getting married, beginning a new job, or being pulled over for speeding are
situational examples. Feelings of stress symptoms of mild anxiety can be very similar. Unlike moderate
amounts of stress, which can have positive, motivating effects, symptoms of anxiety cause people to lose
energy, have difficulty focusing, and feel out of control. With a lifestyle of conflicting demands, time
pressures, and ever-increasing responsibilities, the symptoms of anxiety and panic are increasingly common.
If the symptoms of anxiety begin to control or negatively influence our lives, the best
course of action is to reach out for help. When anxiety is significant and remains constant, it is often
referred to as Generalized Anxiety Disorder. When anxiety occurs in bursts of disabling intensity, it is
often referred to as Panic Disorder. Approximately 14% of people in the general population suffer from an
anxiety disorder.
This awareness tool was developed to help individuals assess the extent to which they
are prone to anxiety. It is not designed to diagnose anxiety disorders or measure the specific stresses
present in your life.
DISCLAIMER: This anxiety awareness tool is meant to increase
