Fostering a Culture of Belonging

Fostering a culture of belonging starts with our employees.

We cultivate a culture that nurtures inclusivity, promotes diversity, and appreciates different perspectives. This helps us effectively serve our clients and broader communities. We work as a community, guided by our values and are unified in our mission to make healthcare access easier for everyone from all walks of life. We are thoughtful about our words and actions, and appreciate unique perspectives.

We strive to uphold our values and take steps to cultivate our culture through each one.

WE ARE INTENTIONAL ABOUT OUR HIRING.

We hire people from various backgrounds, who think differently, and challenge the status quo.

We strive to employ individuals who have the potential to create diversity of thought, and we believe in the importance of hiring for culture add versus culture fit. Differing perspectives in the workplace increases innovation, service, idea generation and problem solving. We want individuals who stretch our mold instead of fitting into it.

How we achieve culture-add hiring:

  • Equipping our hiring managers with tools and resources to identify existing team skills and knowledge gaps
  • Increasing awareness of hiring biases and providing education on ways to mitigate these biases
  • Using scorecards during the interview process to help in making objective hiring decisions
  • Having candid conversations with hiring managers about the challenges with homogenous teams
  • Educating hiring managers on the benefits of having teams with diverse perspectives

WE ESTABLISH INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP BEHAVIORS & ACTIONS

Leadership plays a key role in encouraging inclusivity in a workplace.

Our ongoing Infusing Inclusion Campaign focuses on sharing education tools and resources to upskill our leaders. This ensures our leadership is prepared with concrete ways to infuse inclusion into their daily management work and routines.

We increase inclusivity through awareness by:

  • Deepening our leadership understanding of the culture of belonging through interactive learning opportunities and engaging conversations
  • Providing tools for employees to understand the importance of diversity and how to embrace it in the workplace

WE EMBRACE ALL PERSPECTIVES.

We want everyone to see themselves in our inclusion work.

By offering many channels of communication we can listen to all voices, even voices that disagree. We believe The more we listen, the bigger impact we can have. We listen to learn and refine.

Avenues of communication we have created:

  • Having various events and venues designed to keep open communication flowing across our organization such as CEO round tables, new hire check-in, leadership-led coffee hours, and employee resource groups.
  • Collecting data through inclusion and culture pulse surveys.
  • Gathering input and feedback from our Employee Resources Groups.
  • These interactions allow us to share ideas, and perspectives on various work initiatives and drive impact through integration.

WE CREATE PATHWAYS FOR EMPLOYEES TO RISE UP.

We prioritize career progression.

We understand that we can elevate our output by focusing on diversifying leadership representation to accurately reflect the communities we serve. Increased representation in our leadership has a profound impact on organizational influence and decision making. Our leadership program is open to individuals who have an interest in moving up in our company, and it is designed to empower and support them on their leadership journey.

Key components of our program include:

  • Special leadership skill development training
  • One-on-one professional coaching
  • Mentorship and sponsorship pairings
  • Opportunities for increased visibility in our organization
  • Access to a community cohort of people interested in rising up in First Choice Health

WE BUILD A COMMUNITY TO AMPLIFY EMPLOYEE VOICES.

We have a variety of employee-led groups that serve as valuable tools for cultivating an inclusive workplace.

Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) provide opportunities for employees to connect based on shared interests, identities or experiences. ERGs promote personal bonds, establish a sense of belonging, and help educate the greater First Choice Health community.

Some of our Employee Resource Groups:

  • Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPI)
  • Caregivers
  • Employees with Disabilities
  • LGBTQ+
  • Women Shine
  • Working Parents
  • And many more

WE CELEBRATE OUR COMMUNITIES

On a monthly basis, we commemorate historical and cultural events.

We commemorate historical and cultural events to celebrate the triumphs and acknowledge the challenges faced by various groups that make up our communities as a whole. These monthly celebrations help us bring awareness and appreciation to the unique experiences of different groups and promote a sense of unity and togetherness in our communities.

Celebration examples:

WE ENCOURAGE A CULTURE OF APPRECIATION

We recognize and celebrate important achievements.

Ensuring our employees feel valued for the work they do reinforces shared goals and promotes a sense of belonging. Our recognition platform allows employees to acknowledge one another's work, show appreciation for colleagues, and celebrate service milestones. We share these recognitions at monthly company meetings to highlight individual and collaborative achievements.
