EAP Counseling and Providers Our Assessment and Referral Services help improve employee mental health.

Mental health continues to be a growing topic in the United States. According to the latest data, 20.6% of U.S. adults experienced mental illness in 2019, representing 1 in 5 adults. Depression and anxiety have a significant economic impact; the World Health Organization has estimated the cost to the global economy is US$ 1 trillion per year in lost productivity. While many jobs affect a person physically, we can't ignore that mental fatigue from workplace stressors also play a big factor in employee illness, health, and mortality. This is why EAP services and similar programs are critical to provide the necessary support to mental health in the workplace.

Our whole person approach to Assessment and Referral

First Choice Health EAP provides seamless care to your employees when they are most vulnerable. When an employee is stressed or overwhelmed by personal or work situations, they can't perform their duties effectively; this can lead to decreased productivity, increased absences, and errors such as safety mistakes. Counseling provided through the EAP gives individuals the resources they might need to get help.

Our best-in-class, whole person approach includes building relationships and using the latest technology. As we listen to your employees' concerns, we can suggest and facilitate referrals to other services. Promoting positive employee morale and providing access to counseling helps improve the motivation and productivity of the workforce.

Finding care is difficult - we make it easier for your employees

We strive to meet your employees where they are. We offer traditional face-to-face EAP counseling as well as telehealth services that include text, chat, phone, and video sessions. Whenever urgent support for an employee or covered member is needed, our licensed providers are available immediately by phone for crisis management.

Our process provides your employees with the best match for their situation, with an average match time of 2 days.

  1. Employees reach out to us 24/7 through our hotline or via our online request form.
  2. A live Customer Service Representative is immediately connected to listen to your employees' concerns and make an appropriate referral.
  3. Our representative will find an EAP provider who meets their specialty preference, takes their insurance (in most cases), is located near their home or work, and is available on their schedule. Online therapy sessions are also available.
  4. Once a provider is found for the employee, the provider will call the employee directly to make an appointment- usually within  24-48 hours after getting matched.

Through our hands-on process, 70% of employees report that they resolve issues to their satisfaction within initial EAP visits, without the need to access their health plan benefits. We strive to refer each employee to a provider in their health plan network, for better coordination of continued care, if needed.

Be assured that information regarding contact with the EAP is never released without signed consent (except as required by law to ensure the safety of the employee or others).

Extensive provider network for improved access to care

We provide access to EAP counseling through connection to more than 20,000 licensed behavioral health provider locations, a network carefully built and nurtured over 18 years to ensure the highest quality care and the best matches to employee concerns. Our providers include licensed mental health professionals, psychologists, clinical social workers, and marriage and family therapists. We offer national access to licensed professionals that have met our thorough credentialing standards. Our credentialing application collects information on the provider's practice including a list of more than 60 diverse specialties, languages spoken, age ranges, insurances accepted, and experience working with certain populations.

Telehealth is a convenient option for mental health care anytime, anywhere.

We strive to meet our employers' needs and to meet employees where they are. Our innovative telehealth benefit allows you to provide quality behavioral health care to shift workers, rural employees, city employees stuck in traffic, busy parents, or for those that prefer to meet their provider in a virtual setting.

Employees can use their telehealth sessions in four ways, using different methods at different times to communicate with their therapist, based on their needs, availability, and convenience. Access to our telehealth counseling program can include online messaging, live chatting, speaking over the phone, and secure video conferencing.
